HISTORY

The original house at No. 913 was constructed in 1887 by Brooke & Cator for owner George L. Botch. In a 9/20/1987 Traceries survey, the original house (and No. 915 next door) were described as a brick stable with two stories.

The current house is three stories high and has a distinctive façade of pressed stone (Permastone). A brick veranda supported by brick columns is present on the second floor and forms a shelter for the first floor. There are segmented arches over the windows and a transom over floor to the porch. No. 913 is currently (2022) a 1,176 square foot rowhouse on a 962 square foot lot with 4 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.

1880 - William Wall (b. 1850, MD) works as a plumber. His wife Katherine is a housekeeper (. 1855, Ireland). their son, Frank was born in 1876 in DC. (Census)

1900 - John J. O'Connor is a plaster (b. 1865, DC) His wife Bridget (b. 1867, DC) They have three sons (Luke, Raymond and John) and three daughters (Mary, Catherine and Francis). Bridget's brother, Thomas (b. 1867, Ireland) is a bricklayer. (Census) In 1910 - Agnes O'Connor (b. 1867, DC) is a charwoman. Luke A. is the son of John J. (Census)
1920 - John Brooks (b. 1868, MD) is a laborer. His wife Annie (b. 1882, DC) is a laundress. Henry (b. 1901, DC) is a laborer and Ellworth (b. 1903, DC) is a boot clerk. Younger children include Charles, Harry, Joseph, Thomas and Percy. (Census)
1930 - Georgia Davis (b. 1882, DC) is a charwoman., Her son-in-law George (b. 1902, MD) is a laborer. Martha H. Jones is (b. 1908, DC) is related to the Davis's. Mabel Gibson (B. 1906, VA) is a lodger and works as a maid. (Census)
1940 - 1950 Martha James (b. 1910, DC) does housework. Her son David and daughter Ellen live with her. They were both born in DC. Martha's mother, Georgia Davis (b. 1878, DC), brother-in-law Peter Colbert (b. 1899, DC) and his sister and two nieces also live in the house. Niece Beatrice (b. 1919, DC) is a hairdresser. Great nephew Ronald, and great nieces Mercia and Barbera Ann also live in the house and were born in DC between 1936 and 1939. (Census)
